Farmed salmon factories pump microplastics into Iceland‘s clean waters (and on the consumer‘s plate)

This shocking video from environmentalist Veiga Grétarsdóttir sheds light on the massive microplastic pollution coming from open net pen fish farms. According to Veiga‘s observations, up to 1,5 tons of micro plastics are released into the Westfjords of Iceland each year from fish farms.

64.000 plastic bottles!

To put this into perspective, 1,5 tons is the equivalent of 64.000 half litre plastic bottles

Danger to consumers!

Microplastics mix with the feed that rushes through the tubes and ends up in the farmed salmon and the ocean. The micro plastic not only ends up in the ocean but also in the farmed salmon that the unsuspecting consumer then eats. No studies have been performed in Iceland on the amount of microplastics in farmed salmon. Consumers have a right to know what this means for their health and the health of the environment.
